Wrapping Up 2025

As we head into winter, let’s take a look back at some highlights from the fall.

Campaigner Fall Weekend

My high school Campaigner (small) group had the privilege of heading down to Seaside, Oregon for a great weekend of sports, good food, and meaningful conversations about identity. I taught them the concept of I/Thou (any Martin Buber fans out there?) and, just as importantly, how to throw a frisbee in the wind.

One thing that really struck me: many of these guys have never had the experience of simply getting away with a group of friends. COVID shaped so much of their middle school and early high school years, and this weekend felt like a rare chance to slow down, laugh, and be fully present together.

Huge thank you to the Robinsons for letting us stay in their condo—what a gift.

Leading a Team

For the first time, I’m supervising a team! Sound Cities includes the Mukilteo and Edmonds areas. We have an admin and a staff associate serving in Edmonds while I focus on building community and programming in Mukilteo.

Leading a team has been a meaningful way to put everything I’ve learned about leadership to the test. One tool I’ve especially come to value is StrengthsFinder, a personality assessment by Gallup. It gives language to start conversations about how God has uniquely wired each individual. We’ve been using it both as a Sound Cities staff team and with my Campaigners guys. As these seniors think about college and what’s next, it’s been really beautiful to speak life into how God has made them. I’m exploring the possibility of getting certified.

Starting WyldLife

This fall we officially launched WyldLife (Young Life for middle schoolers). I’ve loved getting to spend time with these students, hearing Gen Alpha’s latest slang (“Look at this unc trying to aura farm!”), listening to their completely unprompted Donald Trump impressions, and most importantly, sharing the Good News that the God of the universe knows and loves them.

While the group has been small so far (around 4–7 kids), we’re excited for word to spread as more parents and students learn about it.

On the Homefront

Lindy is officially 9 months old—and she loves to eat. We joke that she might be the next Joey Chestnut (hot dog–eating contest champion). She started crawling, which is exciting…and slightly exhausting. We’re also happy to report she’s sleeping through the night.

Sam spent most of the fall obsessed with all things Winnie the Pooh and construction vehicles. We discovered a Youtube channel dedicated to songs all about trucks (my favorite is “Dump Truck”). We may be turning a corner, though—dinosaurs are quickly becoming the new favorite.

Meg continues to recover from baby #2 and has done an amazing job building cardboard vehicles to fuel Sam’s imagination. She’s also continuing her part-time work creating spiritual formation resources for Young Life staff in the European Division.

Year-End Giving

As we come to the end of 2025, I know you’ve probably received a lot of year-end emails and giving reminders. There are many incredible organizations doing great work. As I approach Year NINE with Young Life, I continue to believe deeply in the impact this imperfect organization has on teenagers and the communities they’re part of.

Would you consider giving a year-end gift to help this work continue?

Thank you so much—and Merry Christmas!
